DrawSomething Mania

I have had a lot of time to do whatever I wanted recently, which might very well be a symptom of not having a career to kick off just yet. And instead of job hunting, which I do everyday anyway and it seems to just bore me now, I have been playing DrawSomething on my iPhone with my other friends that have it. I love that game as far as

time wasting goes, but I seem to have yet again taken it to the next extreme with my current drawings. Below, I am going to include a multitude of the different drawings that I have been working on for the past few days. And just as a side note, they have become more complicated with each passing day. Also, for the first time since I started playing the game I have actually ran out of ink. To run out of ink means to spend so much time on a single drawing that the game will not be able to send the video playback to a friend. I thought it was quite amusing, but the drawings still came out fantastic even with the lack of finishing them. Anyway, take a look, I'll try to include my personal thoughts along the way!

Don't Forget the Others

I will be the first one to admit that I have a set of friends I call-up, talk to, or message on a daily basis, for I think that is something we as humans all naturally have. These are my best friends, my friends that I hang-out with as much as possible, and my speed-dial friends (so to say). And I can also openly say that they are on a whole different list from my other friends. They are not just in my address book on my phone, they have a whole section for quick and easy access. Leaving them on easy access makes sense too, because I talk to them as often as I talk to my family. And maybe every now and then we will quarrel and I will write something about them on here to blow off steam, but these are still my best friends and within an hour I feel fairly close to fine again. That sort of friendship is something special and I know that. To say that this list is exclusive might not be too far from the truth.

But they are not my only friends and actually I have an entire list of great and wonderful people just around the bend, or to the touch of another button so-to-speak, on my phone. This second set of friends, the ones that I could not have lived without for a portion of my life, are slightly different from the first. We click really well and if we were brought together in a room for the first time in a year, then we would have no problem picking up where life left off. These are my great friends, to which I mean they are the people I do not take for granted and I want to keep close to me, but for whatever reason we just are not very good over the long distance.

With all of that said, it will seem weird that now I am going to add that I need to start telling myself to not forget about the others. For instance, out of some part of me I decided that today I would contact my great, amazingly talented and smart friend Mari. I do not think I would have gotten through college without her, she is that sort of loving and caring individual. Well, at first we spoke about job hunting and what not, but then we moved on like time had not passed between us. That is the sign of a great friendship and I admire that we have something like that. So here is more of a personal note than a forewarning to others, I need to not forget about the others.

Writing Exercise: The Sailor and the Meese

The following is a fairy tale that I wrote in approximately thirty minutes through text messages. Now, normally my fairy tales are not very good because they lack any sort of depth and pretty much have no plot behind them. But somehow the following one I wrote came out pretty well. And just for the hell of it, I am also including all of my friend's comments when she gave them and while I was writing this in a second column. I promise to keep them posted approximately when I  received them. Anyway, without further ado, here is the fairy tale I wrote.

Living in the Bubble

You know, it is weird how sometimes comedies and comedians tend to capture the real world with a blown out-of-proportion piece on what the real world is. Take for example the case and lifestyle philosophy presented in the show 30 Rock, where in one episode they start describing certain people as living "in the bubble". For those that have no seen the episode about living "in the bubble" or have never heard the idea, the bubble is a place where beautiful, handsome, and just abnormally over-respected people live their blessed life. They tend to be handed things their entire life, given opportunities that normally would not exist because they live in a superficial world where they already have good looks and so others tend to focus on them more. And the worst part about being in the bubble is that they cannot see that they are in the bubble, but instead wonder why others outside the bubble are treated differently without connecting the two. Like I said, a strange philosophy, but the bubble is actually a real world thing that happens all the time.

To Talk About A Puppy

Yesterday I was supposed to meet up with my friend for some coffee at our favorite place, Caribou Coffee. Unfortunately she did not wake up. And so no matter how many times I called or text messaged her, she was not going to be able to make it. Five hours after I first sent her a message she replied and then three hours after that she finally got back to me. The fact was we were not going to get our coffee no matter what.

Now I want to say before I continue that I know my friend can read this and a part of me sort of hopes that she does. Maybe then she'll understand why what she said upset me, bugged me so much that after a night of sleeping on it I still did not feel at ease about it. I know that I should try and let things roll off my shoulder, I know I should probably take words for the dime they are worth, and I have had some time to think this all over. Hopefully this will sort of bring up the issue a bit better or more clearly.

Great Friends Last a Lifetime

I know that I do a lot of blog posts about my friends, but then again where would I be without them. They are like my family, they shape me into the person I am and they help guide me through the darkest of times. And the one thing I have always tried to do is hold my friendships throughout anything that life might through at us.

But this time, I would like to single out one friend that I have had for years now, one that I've had quarrels with and we've gotten through a lot of weird things that friends do not normally have to go to. This is my best friend (though not my only best friend) Jordan. Let me just give a brief history and then why I'm making this post.

A Very Weird Horoscope Today

I would like to start off by saying I am not very superstitious when it comes to luck and the alignment of planets and all of that. I just cannot see how the day I was born would have anything to do with or relate to the alignment of the planets, and even less understanding of how someone born two days different can have the same fate as I do. And do not get me wrong, I understand the philosophy behind horoscopes and Chinese proverbs of wisdom, but they just do not make sense to me.

Instead, I read my horoscope and my daily words of wisdom because it gives me something fun and interesting to do on my down time. I do not tend to take them for more than that, a bunch of very bland predictions of what I should feel like for the day that may or may not be right. So when I finally get one that not only hits home, but perfectly on to my current emotions, I am a bit surprised. Take for instance today.

Here's today's horoscope for Aquarius (Aug 6, 2012):

Mood: 3/6 Stars
A very demanding Monday due to the square formed between the moon and Pluto which could bring back old problems to life.
Love: 2/6 Stars
Unfortunately you will barely have any time to devote to your love life, you will be far too busy as it is.
Career: 2/6 Stars
You could well totally ignore important pieces of information you will be given today.
Wellness: 2/6 Stars
You can expect stress, mostly due to the issues present in your professional life today.

Finally, A Water Roller Coaster

I'm no stranger to water parks, and in fact I actually really enjoy watching the Travel Channel's top water parks in the world. Granted, I've also watched the top theme parks, roller coasters, and bathrooms  in the world as well, but that's because they are always interesting to see. Side note, the top bathroom is gorgeous!

Let me just get back to my main point. I was asked today by my friend Laurel when we were going to Water World and decided to go check out their website. The front page has all over it Mile High Flyer, which is their brand new water roller coaster. I was excited as all get out! Last I checked, there were only two water parks in the world that have a roller coaster. Why? Because the catch is that the roller coasters must only use water to get the people moving. There are no chains on these, there are no tracks, but instead there is a long, swirly, up and down slide that a stretched inner tube must go up and down! Here's the trailer they host on their website!

Now, I have not been on it yet (though I'm sure I'll update this as soon as that happens), but I honestly cannot wait to try this out. My first impression is it looks kind of dull from the video, but then again so do roller coasters when you watch them. I'm sure once I have gravity pushing and pulling my insides around I'll get a thrill rush! I just hope it isn't short.

The Perfect Cup of Coffee

Recently, I've been thinking back on the different things I've done with friends. The moments, those times when I've shared something extremely special with one other friend that brought us closer together. Well, with my best friend Vicki I've had about a hundred moments and there's always a cup of coffee involved. I know, it sounds weird because anyone can walk into a coffee shop with another friend and have a cup of joe. So what makes me call this a moment? Because we both can remember the room we were sitting in, the time of day, and what we were both doing when we were drinking coffee on all those occasions.
